Articles containing information regarding Glossary F

  • Chronograph Station

A chronograph station is the designated area where players test and adjust marker velocity to ensure compliance with field safety limits.

  • Fall Back

A fall back is a tactical retreat to a safer or more advantageous bunker to regain control, preserve bodies, or counter an opponent’s advancing pressure.

  • Fanning Shots

Fanning shots are rapid, controlled bursts fired across multiple adjacent lanes or angles to deny movement, test for exposure, or pressure multiple positions simultaneously.

  • Fast Crawl

A fast crawl is a rapid, low profile forward movement technique used mainly in the snake, allowing players to advance quickly while remaining below opponent sightlines and lanes.

  • Fast Peek

A fast peek is a rapid, minimal-exposure glance used to gather information or bait shots without committing to a full snapshot or wide lean.

  • Feed Stack

The feed stack is the column of paintballs resting inside the marker’s feedneck and breech area, forming the queue of balls that feed into the chamber during firing.

  • Feedneck

The feedneck is the upper component of a marker where the loader mounts, securing the hopper and delivering paintballs into the breech through the feed stack.

  • Field Awareness

Field awareness is a player’s ability to understand the evolving positions, lanes, zones, and pressure patterns across the whole field, not just at their own bunker.

  • Field Boundary

A field boundary is the marked perimeter that defines the playable area of a paintball field. Stepping outside this boundary results in elimination or penalty according to field rules.

  • Field Layout

A field layout is the structured arrangement of bunkers, lanes, angles, and movement routes defining how a paintball field is played in a given format or event.

  • Field Paint Only

Field Paint Only (FPO) is a rule requiring players to use paintballs sold exclusively by the hosting field or event, ensuring consistent safety, quality, and compliance with facility standards.

  • Field Walking

Field walking is the process of studying a paintball field layout before gameplay to understand bunker shapes, shooting lanes, movement routes, angles, and positional advantages.

  • Field Zone

A field zone is a defined area or sector of the field used to group bunkers and spaces for communication, planning, and understanding how positions relate to one another.

  • Fill Station

A fill station is the designated area at a paintball facility where compressed air or CO₂ tanks are refilled, maintained, and inspected for safe use during gameplay.

  • Fire Control

Fire control refers to the discipline and decision-making behind when, where, and how a player applies gunfire to maximize tactical impact while conserving paint.

  • Firing Mode

Firing mode refers to how a paintball marker fires each shot, controlled by mechanical parts or electronic settings that determine the trigger response.

  • First-Strike Rounds

First-strike rounds are fin-stabilized paintball projectiles designed for extended range and more predictable flight paths than standard spherical paintballs when used in compatible magfed markers.

  • Flanking

Flanking is a strategy where a player moves around the side of the field to attack opponents from an unexpected or less-protected angle.

  • Forward Pressure

Forward pressure is continuous shooting and movement that forces opponents backward, reducing their angles and preventing them from gaining control of the field.

  • Front Player

A front player is a field position specializing in aggressive movement, low profile play, and early control of key forward bunkers such as the snake or dorito insert.

  • Full Exposure

Full exposure refers to a player revealing their entire body or marker while engaging, significantly increasing vulnerability and generally considered a critical mistake in gunfighting.

  • Funnel Lane

A funnel lane is a pattern of shooting lanes arranged so that certain routes become heavily pressured, while one or more paths remain comparatively less pressured, tending to direct opponent movement into a narrower and more predictable corridor.
