Articles containing information regarding Glossary O

  • Angled Shot

An angled shot is any shot taken from a non linear or diagonal trajectory that exploits bunker geometry, vertical differences, or off axis positioning to tag opponents who are otherwise protected.

  • Obstacle Line

An obstacle line is a row or sequence of bunkers, structures, or natural barriers that form a continuous defensive or movement boundary across a portion of the field.

  • Off the Break

Off the break refers to the very first seconds of a point when both teams sprint to their bunkers and shoot lanes to score early eliminations.

  • Off-Angle Position

An off angle position is a bunker location or shooting angle that sits outside the primary, expected engagement line, allowing a player to strike opponents from an unexpected trajectory or bypass standard defensive lanes.

  • Off-Hand Shooting

Off-hand shooting is firing your marker with your non-dominant hand to reduce exposure and gain angles that would be unsafe or impossible with your strong hand.

  • Offset Lane

An offset lane is a shooting lane deliberately aimed slightly away from the direct path of an opponent to cut off their wrap, reposition, or micro movement rather than their main route.

  • On-Field Communication

On-field communication is the constant flow of simple, clear verbal information players share during a game to coordinate movement, shooting, and awareness.

  • One-for-One Penalty

A one-for-one penalty is a rules enforcement action where a referee removes one additional live player from the offending team for every player found committing an infraction such as cheating, playing on, or wiping.

  • Open Side

The open side is the direction of the field where a bunker offers the least protection, exposing players to more angles and requiring greater discipline to survive engagements.

  • Out-of-Bounds

Out of bounds refers to any area outside the officially designated playing field where players are not permitted to stand, shoot, or move during a point.

  • Overbore

Overbore refers to using a barrel or insert with a bore size larger than the paintball’s diameter, reducing friction but sacrificing efficiency and sealing.

  • Overexposure

Overexposure is the mistake of revealing too much of the body or marker while engaging, resulting in an increased likelihood of being hit during gunfights.

  • Overshooting Rule

The overshooting rule defines the limits on how many paintballs a player may legally discharge at an opponent once that opponent is eliminated, designed to prevent excessive force and maintain safety.

  • Top Peek

A top peek is a shooting technique where a player briefly pops up over the top of a bunker instead of peeking from the sides, used strategically but with significant exposure risk.
