Glossary B
Articles containing information regarding Glossary B
- Back Player
A back player is a position focused on survivability, communication, and field control, typically occupying rear bunkers to support teammates with lanes, information, and coordinated moves.
- Backpack Air Tank Setup
A backpack air tank setup places the primary compressed air tank in a backpack or harness, connected to the marker with a remote line, shifting weight off the marker and onto the player’s back.
- Barrel Break
A barrel break occurs when a paintball ruptures inside the barrel during firing, coating the bore with paint and causing accuracy loss until the barrel is cleaned.
- Barrel Cover / Barrel Sock
A barrel cover, often called a barrel sock, is a safety device that fits over the muzzle of a paintball marker to catch accidental shots and prevent paintballs from leaving the barrel in non-play areas.
- Barrel Swab
A barrel swab is a flexible cleaning tool used to remove broken paint, shell fragments, and moisture from the inside of a paintball barrel between points or games.
- Blind Spot
A blind spot is a zone on the field where a player, bunker, or structure obstructs visual coverage, creating an unsighted angle exploitable for movement or attack.
- Blowback
Blowback is the rearward force created when expanding gas pushes the bolt or internal components backward during a marker’s firing cycle.
- Body Position
Body position describes how a player aligns their head, shoulders, core, hips, and feet relative to a bunker, ground surface, firing lane, and incoming pressure. It affects stability, visibility, accuracy, and movement efficiency in every phase of a point.
- Bolt Cycle
The bolt cycle describes the full sequence of bolt movement during a shot, including forward travel, breech sealing, firing, and return.
- Bolt Spring
The bolt spring is the mechanical component that returns the bolt to its rearward resting position after firing in spring-based or hybrid marker designs.
- Bounce
Bounce refers to an instance where a paintball strikes a player's equipment or body but does not break, resulting in no valid elimination.
- Breakout (Beginning Of Point)
The breakout is the first 2–5 seconds of a paintball point when players leave the start box, execute initial lanes, and take primary positions. It determines early control of space, survivability off the start, and the structure of the entire point.
- Breakout Shooting Lane (Breakout Lane/Breakout Shot)
A breakout lane is a pre-planned stream of paint aimed across a corridor of the field during the opening seconds of a point to catch opponents as they run to primary bunkers.
- Breech Seal
A breech seal is the sealing interface between a paintball and the marker’s firing chamber that minimizes air loss, prevents blow-by, and supports consistent velocity and efficiency.
- Bunker
A bunker is any field obstacle or piece of cover that players use for protection, line-of-sight control, and positional leverage during a paintball game.
- Bunker Run
A bunker run is an aggressive, committed advance where a player leaves cover to sprint to an opponent’s bunker with the intent to eliminate them or break open a stalemate.
- Bunkering (Rundown)
Bunkering is the act of eliminating an opponent at close range by attacking their bunker, typically involving a fast move past or into their position and firing from a dominant angle.
