Gun Line

Gun Line reference article.

Overview

A gun line is the coordinated alignment of multiple players’ shooting lanes that form a unified barrier of pressure, restricting opponent movement and controlling field space.

Key Points

  • Created when multiple teammates align overlapping lanes.
  • Restricts opponent movement and forces predictable routes.
  • Used off the break, during containment, and in mid-game lockdowns.
  • Requires synchronized timing and continuous communication.
  • Breaks down if one player drops their lane or is eliminated.
  • Fundamental to controlling tempo and dictating engagement flow.

Details

A gun line occurs when multiple players position their markers to create a reinforced barrier of paint across certain sections of the field. These lanes overlap in a structured way to prevent opponents from advancing, crossing zones, or accessing key bunkers.

Off the break, a gun line can stop runners from reaching aggressive spots or force them into less advantageous positions. During containment phases, a solid gun line creates a wall of pressure that traps opponents in back bunkers and limits their options.

Gun lines must be maintained with discipline: if even one player drops their lane too early, a gap appears that opponents can exploit. High-level teams rely on communication and timing cues to adjust the gun line as players die, move, or pivot toward new threats.

In scenario play, gun lines may extend across natural terrain features or structural chokepoints. In speedball, the concept is more precise and directly tied to mirrored bunker geometry.

Maintaining an effective gun line is crucial for dictating engagements and preventing momentum swings.
