Field Heat Map
Overview
A field heat map is a visual or conceptual analysis showing where gunfights, movement patterns, eliminations, and control points most frequently occur on a paintball field layout.
Key Points
- Used to identify high-traffic lanes, strong bunkers, and danger zones.
- Built from scrimmage data, event footage, scouting, or strategic mapping.
- Helps teams plan breakouts, attack routes, and control bunker assignments.
- Exposes weak areas where opponents tend to push or collapse the field.
- Supports long-term layout mastery and pre-event preparation.
Details
A field heat map visualizes activity density across a paintball field. It highlights where players commonly die, where movement transitions occur, which bunkers dominate the layout, and how firing lanes overlap. Teams generate these maps through live scrimmage testing, video analysis, scouting, or strategic breakdowns.
Heat maps show patterns such as: - Lanes with high breakout elimination probability - Mid-grid control bunkers that dominate multiple angles - Low-risk vs. high-risk bump zones - Favored attack routes into snake or Dorito side - Areas where defenses frequently collapse
These insights allow teams to refine breakouts, select optimal hold points, assign anchor duties, and structure layered depth control. Heat maps also help predict how opponents will play the layout, since certain areas consistently attract aggressive moves or control battles.
High-level programs use heat maps for tournament prep, pairing them with bunker count, elevation changes, and historical bunker win percentages. This creates a data-driven strategic understanding of field geometry long before a match begins.
