Structure Awareness
Overview
Structure awareness is understanding the layout of the field including bunker shapes, positions, and lines of sight to make smarter decisions during movement and gunfights.
Key Points
- Helps predict where opponents can shoot from.
- Improves movement efficiency and safety.
- Reduces surprises by understanding blind spots.
- Essential for reading lanes and safe routes.
- Used before and during games through field walking and observation.
Details
Structure awareness refers to a player’s understanding of the physical layout of the field where bunkers are positioned, which angles are live, and how sightlines intersect across the playing area.
Players with strong structure awareness can: Navigate safely between bunkers. Anticipate likely opponent locations. Avoid exposing major hit zones. Position themselves for stronger shooting lanes.
This awareness begins during field walking, where players memorize bunkers, common shooting angles, and movement paths. During gameplay, structure awareness continues as players update their mental map based on new information.
Good structure awareness prevents unnecessary risks and helps players take high value positions with confidence.
