- A breaking paintball marks the player as eliminated.

- Players must immediately signal they are out and exit the field.
- Eliminated players cannot communicate or interfere with gameplay.
- Rules may vary slightly by field, but the core concept is universal.
Details
Elimination is the central rule of paintball: when a paintball breaks on a player or their equipment, they are out of the game. Contact must leave a visible mark of broken paint. Bounces paintballs that hit but do not break do not count.
Most fields count hits on any part of the body, mask, gear, or marker. Once hit, players must raise their hand or marker, call themselves out verbally, and walk directly toward the deadbox or exit. They cannot signal, coach teammates, or provide tactical information after being eliminated.
Eliminations maintain fairness and help referees monitor the match. Variations may appear in scenario formats or objective games, but the basic principle remains the same across all paintball environments: a clean break means you’re out.
