Details
A hold point is a structured, temporary position where a player halts movement to maintain a tactical advantage. Instead of immediately bumping into the next bunker, the player holds a lane or angle for stability, protecting teammates who are moving or applying pressure. Hold points act as positional brakes, preventing the team from overextending.
These positions commonly sit at depth-balancing locations midline wedges, home towers, corner inserts, or center beams. Players occupying hold points assess threats, control wide lanes, and maintain team spacing.
Hold points are especially valuable during the transition from the breakout into the first 10–20 seconds of controlled play. They allow attackers to move safely into deeper bunkers while the hold player prevents counter-pushes.
Teams practice hold timing, determining exactly when a player should stay, when they should release, and which lanes must be maintained until the field’s pressure resets.
