Key Points
- Used to gain quick visibility or take fast shots.
- Minimizes exposure by keeping the body tight.
- Often paired with snap shooting techniques.
- Helps check multiple angles without leaving the bunker fully.
- Timing is critical to avoid getting caught mid step.
Details
Stepping out is the act of briefly moving out from behind a bunker to see or shoot an angle. Unlike fully exiting cover or committing to a wide move, stepping out is a short, controlled action meant to reduce exposure.
Players use this technique to: Check for opponents holding an angle. Take quick, accurate shots. Create new lines of fire without shifting the entire body. Test whether a lane is active.
The movement must be tight and deliberate. Players keep their elbows close, lean out smoothly, and return instantly once the shot or check is complete. Poor stepping technique exposes too much body and creates easy elimination opportunities for opponents.
Stepping out is a fundamental movement skill used at all levels of play.
