- Keeps the player low and behind cover immediately.
- Improves survivability in open-field movement.
Details
A hard stop is the technique of stopping quickly and under control when a player arrives at a bunker after sprinting. Without a proper hard stop, players risk overshooting their bunker, losing balance, or exposing themselves to incoming fire.
Hard stops can involve digging a foot into the ground, dropping into a controlled slide, or using a bunker wall as a stabilizer. The goal is to enter the bunker’s protected zone smoothly and immediately adopt a low, safe posture.
Players use hard stops during breakouts, flanks, tape-line runs, or any situation where speed must transition into instant cover. A well-executed hard stop increases safety and reduces exposure, especially in fields with tight arrival zones.
Practicing hard stops helps players maintain stability, avoid tripping, and be ready to shoot immediately after reaching cover.
