Shadow Movement

Shadow Movement reference article.

Overview

Shadow movement is a technique where a player mirrors an opponent’s position from another angle, using their movements to predict and control where they can safely peek or move.

Key Points

  • Tracks opponents by matching their movement from a different lane.
  • Helps catch opponents the moment they peek.
  • Used to apply silent pressure without shooting constantly.
  • Reduces opponent freedom by limiting safe angles.
  • Works best with strong field awareness and timing.

Details

Shadow movement is when a player positions themselves so they directly oppose an opponent’s bunker from a different angle, effectively “shadowing” the opponent’s movements. When the opponent leans left, the shadowing player adjusts. When the opponent tucks in, the shadowing player shifts to maintain the counter-angle.

This technique creates a form of invisible pressure. The shadowing player does not need to shoot constantly they simply maintain angles that punish any predictable peeks. Opponents feel trapped because every move they make is mirrored by someone watching their next expected exposure point.

Shadow movement requires patience, discipline, and strong field awareness. It is especially effective when paired with other teammates controlling nearby lanes.

Used well, shadow movement shuts down opponents quietly and forces mistakes that lead to clean eliminations.
