Run Line

Run Line reference article.

Overview

A run line is the specific breakout path a player uses off the start gate, chosen to avoid lanes, maximize speed, and reach assigned bunkers safely.

Key Points

  • Mapped during field walking to avoid predictable break lanes.
  • Different run lines exist for front, mid, and wide route players.
  • Executed with low profile posture and speed.
  • Timing and lane collapse determine whether a run line is safe.
  • Variations exist to confuse opponents and disrupt laning.
  • Critical for breakout survivability and early game pressure.

Details

A run line is the path a player takes from the start gate to their first bunker. These lines are engineered based on lane analysis, bunker spacing, and the expected early game gunfights. Teams pre plan run lines for each position and often memorize multiple alternatives.

Front players use aggressive run lines that weave between bunkers to avoid heavy off the break lanes. Mid players use supportive run lines that allow pivoting into crossfield lanes. Back players may use short, wide, or angled run lines to establish immediate laning positions.

Run lines aren’t static. If the opponent lanes a certain route heavily, teams switch to alternate paths to avoid predictable eliminations.

Precise execution head down, marker tucked, knees bent, balanced stride is vital for reaching the bunker before paint closes the lane.

Strong run lines significantly increase breakout success and field control.
