Role Distribution Mapping
Overview
A mapping model that records where different types of on field roles appear, based only on visible positioning.
Key Points
- Tracks role distributions neutrally.
- Avoids defining strategic intent.
- Useful for historical comparison.
- Supports role based studies.
- Purely observational.
Details
Role distribution mapping places players into broad role categories such as forward, midline, or backline, using only where they are standing or playing at a given time. It does not attempt to define complex tactical roles. This gives a simple picture of where general roles tend to appear on the field and how that changes over time.
