Personal Chronographs
Overview
Personal chronographs are portable devices players use to measure marker velocity, helping them comply with field limits and tune their markers between official chrono checks.
Key Points
- Measure paintball velocity in feet per second (fps).
- Allow players to pre-tune markers before official checks.
- Help monitor consistency and diagnose performance issues.
- Used by teams and individuals at practice and events.
- Do not replace mandatory field chronograph procedures.
Details
Personal chronographs are small devices that measure the velocity of paintballs as they pass through a sensor area. They allow players to check whether their markers are shooting within typical field limits and to monitor consistency over time. Many competitive teams bring personal chronos to practices and events as part of their tuning and maintenance routines.
By testing markers before official chronograph checks, players can adjust velocity and regulator settings proactively. This reduces the chance of delays at the main chrono station and helps keep equipment operating within safe parameters. Personal chronographs also make it easier to diagnose changes in performance that might be caused by paint, temperature, or mechanical issues.
Despite their utility, personal chronographs do not replace official field devices. Fields and events rely on their own chronographs as the standard for enforcing limits, and players must always comply with those readings and procedures.
Personal chronos are commonly carried in gear bags and may be used in staging areas, team pits, or practice fields as part of regular pre-game checks.
