Legal Paint

Legal paint describes paintballs that conform to the rules established by a field, league, or specific event. These regulations ensure fairness, game integrity, and environmental safety. In competitive formats, only approved paint brands or batches may be used. This guarantees consistency in shell brittleness, fill visibility, and break characteristics.

Tournament approved paint must break reliably on impact to aid referees in determining eliminations. The fill must be bright enough to be easily seen from multiple angles, non staining, and environmentally safe. Shell materials are typically required to be biodegradable.

Players may not modify paint in any way. Altering shell hardness, warming paint to change breakability, freezing it to harden shells, or adding substances to alter flight characteristics are all prohibited. Fields may ban extremely brittle or oil based fills to prevent damage or excessive cleanup.

Scenario fields sometimes allow multiple brands, but they still enforce rules preventing outside paint (to maintain revenue and quality control) or paint with nonstandard shells.

Legal paint standards exist to prevent unfair advantages, maintain safe projectile behavior, and ensure that eliminations are clear, consistent, and enforceable.
