Field Netting and Safety Zones

Field netting and designated safety zones are essential components of all regulated paintball fields. Their primary purpose is to prevent paintballs from leaving the play area, ensuring the safety of spectators, staging players, referees, and staff. Without properly installed netting, fields cannot operate legally or meet insurance and league requirements.

Netting is usually constructed from heavy duty nylon or polyester mesh designed to absorb repeated impacts without tearing. These materials must withstand continuous use in both competitive and recreational environments. Proper installation requires maintaining correct tension, securing anchor points, and ensuring there are no gaps where paintballs could pass through.

Safety zones include staging tents, chrono stations, referee areas, and entry/exit gates. These must be clearly marked and separated from active play. Referees monitor these areas closely to ensure goggles remain on, barrel socks stay secured, and no unauthorized person crosses into the field during active points.

Regular inspection routines are mandatory. Operators check net seams, support poles, tension cables, and ground anchors, repairing any damaged sections immediately. Clean visibility is also important dirty or paint smeared netting can obstruct the view of spectators and staff.

These systems contribute to the professionalism of a field, improving player trust, spectator experience, and overall safety compliance. In competitive leagues, netting standards are often codified in rulebooks and must be followed precisely to host sanctioned events.
