Extension Move
Overview
An extension move is a calculated advancement from one bunker to a deeper position to increase field influence, widen angle control, or apply pressure after gaining survivability or information advantage.
Key Points
- Performed after establishing safe control of a zone.
- Used to increase map reach and shooting influence.
- Common on dorito lanes, snake ladders, and center wedges.
- Relies on timing, communication, and cleared lanes.
- Enables isolation plays and field-cutting opportunities.
Details
An extension move is a midgame progression where a player expands their positional footprint by advancing to a deeper bunker. This move is only taken when certain criteria are met: lanes are suppressed, the player's survivability is secure, and the team has adequate information about opponent locations. Extension moves transform stable positions into decisive threats by opening new angles, enabling isolation shots, and pressuring mirrored opponents into containment or retreat.
In structured fields, dorito-side players frequently rely on extension moves to transition from methodical positions into high-impact corners. Snake players use extension moves to climb the ladder and gain deeper crossfield kill shots. Center players may perform compact, incremental extension moves to avoid overexposure while maintaining central leverage.
Teams coordinate extension moves with covering fire, mirrored reads, and timing cues. Poorly timed extensions expose players to crossfield traps, while well-executed ones collapse entire sections of the opposing formation.
